IPL 2026 — completely free in India, paid everywhere else

The Indian Premier League runs from late March to late May each year and is the most-watched T20 cricket competition in the world. The 2026 season features 10 city-based franchises across 74 matches, culminating in the final at the end of May. The defending champions enter the season as the team to beat. India: IPL 2026 is completely free to watch in India. JioCinema streams every match live at no cost via the JioCinema app and website, while Star Sports broadcasts every match live on cable and satellite TV. There is no paid tier required for live coverage in India. Worldwide: IPL is sold to a different broadcaster in each major market, with prices ranging from £6/month in the UK on Sky Sports to around $12/month on Willow TV in the United States. There is no free-to-air IPL coverage outside India.

India — completely free, no subscription

JioCinema is the official streaming home of the IPL in India and offers every match live at no cost. The basic JioCinema app supports Hindi, English, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati, Punjabi and Bhojpuri commentary feeds — making IPL on JioCinema one of the most accessible sports broadcasts on the planet. The app is available on iOS, Android, smart TVs, Fire TV Stick, web browsers and Jio set-top boxes. For TV viewing, Star Sports broadcasts every match live on Star Sports 1, Star Sports 2, Star Sports Hindi and regional language channels. Star Sports is included in nearly every Indian cable and DTH (Tata Play, Airtel Digital TV, Dish TV) package. Disney+ Hotstar, the streaming sibling, also carries IPL on its Premium plan at ₹299/month for those who prefer a single subscription with broader content access. The combination of JioCinema (free) and Star Sports (basic cable) means Indian viewers have multiple completely free or near-free routes to every IPL match.

United Kingdom — Sky Sports Cricket via NOW

In the UK, Sky Sports Cricket holds exclusive rights to the IPL. The cheapest legal route is NOW Sports Membership at £14.99/month, which includes Sky Sports Cricket and access to every match live or on-demand. There is no free-to-air IPL coverage in the UK. BBC Test Match Special and Sky Cricket podcasts cover the competition with audio commentary, but live video requires a Sky Sports subscription. For IPL fans who only watch this competition, a NOW Sports day pass at £14.99 (which used to be a 24-hour pass and is now a Membership) is sometimes cheaper for individual matches if you are very selective about which fixtures you care about.

United States and Canada — Willow TV

In the United States and Canada, Willow TV holds exclusive IPL rights. Willow is available as a standalone subscription at $11.99/month or via cable add-ons through Comcast Xfinity, Spectrum, Verizon Fios, DirecTV Stream and Sling TV. The Sling Orange + International Cricket bundle at $50/month is a common cable-replacement option. Willow TV apps work on iOS, Android, Fire TV, Apple TV, Roku, web browsers and connected TVs. Every IPL match is shown live in HD with English commentary. Willow also carries every other major international cricket fixture, so the subscription is good value for any cricket fan beyond just IPL season. For US viewers who only want IPL during the March-May window, you can subscribe to Willow for two months and cancel — it works out around $24 for the entire IPL season.

Australia, Middle East and the rest of the world

Australia: Disney+ Hotstar is the official IPL streamer in Australia at A$13.99/month (the same Disney+ subscription that includes the rest of the catalogue). Foxtel and Kayo Sports do not carry IPL. New Zealand: Sky Sport NOW carries IPL at NZ$24.99/month. Middle East and North Africa: Cricbuzz and the JioCinema app carry IPL in many countries via geo-locked streaming. STARZPLAY also has rights in selected MENA markets. Southeast Asia: Disney+ Hotstar carries IPL in markets where it operates (Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand) at SGD/MYR/PHP/IDR/THB equivalent of around $7-10/month. South Africa: SuperSport carries IPL on DStv. There is no streaming-only option. For every other country, open a fixture page on Matchcast and toggle the country selector — we list every confirmed IPL broadcaster per country.

Watching IPL with a VPN

JioCinema and Hotstar India offer the IPL completely free or for ₹299/month — dramatically cheaper than any other country. Some viewers connect to an Indian server via a VPN or another commercial VPN and access JioCinema or Hotstar for free or near-free IPL coverage from anywhere in the world. This approach has practical hurdles. JioCinema requires an Indian phone number to register an account, and Hotstar India requires an Indian payment method or UPI for the Premium plan. The free JioCinema tier is the most accessible — most users can register and stream without a payment method as long as they have an Indian phone number to receive the OTP. The broadcaster's terms of service typically prohibit out-of-market access, and the IPL has been more aggressive than most rights holders in blocking known VPN IP ranges. Always check the broadcaster's terms before relying on a VPN as a long-term strategy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the IPL really free in India?
Yes. JioCinema streams every IPL match live for free in India with no subscription required — only an Indian phone number to register an account. Star Sports also broadcasts every match live on cable, included with any standard cable package.
Can I watch the IPL for free outside India?
Live, no — every market outside India sells exclusive paid rights. The closest free options are condensed match replays on YouTube via the official IPL channel, which usually appear 24-48 hours after the match.
What is the cheapest way to watch every IPL match outside India?
In the UK, NOW Sports at £14.99/month. In the US/Canada, Willow TV at $11.99/month. In Australia, Disney+ Hotstar at A$13.99/month. All allow month-to-month cancellation, so subscribing for the IPL season and cancelling afterwards is a legitimate cost-saving strategy.
Can I use a VPN to watch IPL on JioCinema for free from outside India?
Technically yes, but JioCinema requires an Indian phone number to register and the IPL has been aggressive in blocking known VPN IP ranges. A VPN and other commercial VPNs sometimes work, but reliability varies match-to-match. The cleanest path is subscribing to the legitimate broadcaster in your country.
Is the IPL final shown free anywhere outside India?
No — every paid broadcaster outside India holds rights to the final and there is no free-to-air carriage in any major market other than India.
